HOW TAP WORKS DURING THE PILOT
The TAP Youth Rugby Pilot is designed to help boys and girls aged 13–19 in the UK and South Africa begin building their digital sporting profile.
The pilot will allow us to test the TAP concept carefully, learn from athletes, families and sporting organisations, and develop a safer and more inclusive approach to athlete visibility.
STEP 1: COMPLETE THE APPLICATION
Athletes complete the online application with a parent or legal guardian.
The form brings together information about the athlete’s rugby journey, including:
• Playing experience
• Preferred positions
• Current club or school
• Level of training and competition
• Achievements and sporting successes
• A suitable headshot
• Future ambitions
Parent or guardian contact details are collected for verification and safeguarding purposes. They will not be published.
Pilot athletes receive their first three months at no charge. After this period, the profile subscription will be £4.99 per month and can be cancelled at any time.
STEP 2: TAP REVIEWS THE APPLICATION
Every pilot application is reviewed manually by TAP.
For athletes under 18, we confirm that a parent or legal guardian has been involved and that the necessary consent has been provided. We also check that the information and photograph are suitable for publication.
If anything is missing or needs clarification, TAP will contact the parent or guardian before proceeding.
STEP 3: AN APPROVED PROFILE IS CREATED
Once the checks are complete, TAP creates a limited athlete profile using information approved for publication.
The profile is designed to introduce the athlete’s sporting journey while protecting their privacy. Full names, dates of birth, home addresses and family contact details will not be displayed publicly.
A TAP profile does not guarantee selection, representation or a sporting opportunity. Its purpose is to give emerging athletes greater visibility and provide a structured starting point for appropriate interest.
STEP 4: INTEREST IS MANAGED THROUGH TAP
During the pilot, clubs, academies, scouts, agents, coaches and sports schools can contact TAP about an athlete or describe the type of player they are seeking.
TAP will review the enquiry and contact the athlete’s parent or guardian where appropriate. Personal contact details will not be published or passed to an organisation without the necessary checks and permission.
This means initial communication remains supported and safeguarding-led.
STEP 5: KEEP GROWING
An athlete’s sporting journey continues to develop—and their profile should develop with it.
During the pilot, athletes and parents can send TAP relevant updates, such as:
• New achievements
• Changes of club or school
• Representative selection
• Awards and milestones
• Updated playing information
• A replacement profile photograph
TAP will review updates before adding them to the profile. Parents and guardians can also ask for information to be corrected, changed or removed.
FOR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS
Keeping young athletes safe is at the heart of the TAP pilot.
Every application is reviewed manually, parental involvement is confirmed for athletes under 18, and only limited, approved information is published.
Full application details are kept separately from the public profile. Any relevant interest is managed through TAP, allowing the parent or guardian to remain involved in decisions and communication.
The pilot will help us test and strengthen these arrangements before TAP develops into a larger digital platform.
FOR CLUBS, ACADEMIES, SCOUTS AND SPORTS SCHOOLS
The pilot offers sporting organisations an opportunity to discover emerging rugby talent from the UK and South Africa while helping TAP develop a responsible approach to athlete discovery.
Organisations can view the limited profiles published on TAP or contact us with their player requirements. Where a potential match is identified, TAP will approach the athlete’s parent or guardian.
We welcome feedback from organisations willing to help us understand what information is genuinely valuable, how young athletes can be represented fairly and how safer connections can be supported.
